Kaye + Clay is a small ceramic lighting studio based in Yorkshire, creating handmade lamps that explore colour, light, texture, and form.
Each piece is individually hand-built, glazed, and assembled in my small home studio using traditional ceramic processes and small-batch making techniques. No two lamps are exactly alike, and subtle variations and imperfections are part of the character of the work.
Originally coming from a fashion and textiles background, my creative practice has included theatre wardrobe, clothing, and exhibited embroidery work. Many of those influences continue to appear in the lamps through layered surfaces, hand-painted details, colour, and an interest in tactile, expressive forms. Alongside a creative background I also have an MSc in Texiles and have worked in product development, this continues to inform the making process through attention to materials, construction and the relationship between function and form.
The lamps are made slowly and intuitively, sometimes beginning as experiments in shape and evolving into sculptural objects that also function as lighting. I’m interested in creating pieces that feel warm, joyful, and alive — objects that bring softness, atmosphere, and a sense of comfort into everyday spaces.
Everything is made by hand from my home studio in Yorkshire, using a small kiln and a process that embraces individuality, irregularity, and care.
